Graduation is always a momentous occasion, as it symbolizes the completion of a great education milestone and stage of life. The final weeks and days before graduation can become hectic with lots of things for the graduating senior to do. If you prepare early for your graduation ceremony, you can focus more time on enjoying this special occasion. Read on to learn how to prepare for a graduation ceremony
.
- 1
Mark the date of the graduation on all of the calendars used by your family. While family members will gladly change plans in favor of the graduation, it is best to be the first one to reserve the date.
- 2
Choose your invitations to the graduation and subsequent party as early as possible.
- 3
Write out a list of everyone you want to invite to the graduation. Some schools limit the number of people students can bring to a graduation because of space limitations. You may have to invite a select few people to the graduation ceremony, but you can invite everyone to the celebration after the ceremony.
- 4
Address and send your graduation invitations early so people can mark the date on their calendars. If possible, try to give at least two months notice.
- 5
Find out how much the cap and gown will cost, and tell the amount to your parents. Pay for your cap and gown early to make sure you are taken care of so you won't have to worry about it as graduation nears.
- 6
Ask about the school's requirement for dress under the gown. For example, some schools require men to wear a dress shirt and tie under the gown, as well as nice pants and dress shoes.
- 7
Find out when the site for the graduation ceremony will open so your guests aren't stuck waiting outside for a long time. Some sites are open two hours before the graduation ceremony, and other sites are open for guests less than 45 minutes before the ceremony.
- 8
Attend the pre-graduation ceremony meeting to prepare for the ceremony itself. You need to know where to meet for the actual ceremony, where your place is in line and where you will sit.
- 9
Go to the Baccalaureate for your class as part of your celebration of graduation.
- 10
Leave for the graduation ceremony earlier than you normally would. You may run into a lot more traffic than normal with all of the people attending the ceremony. You don't want to run in at the last second to find your place in line.
- 11
Put on your gown and cap, with the tassel hanging off the right side of the cap.
- 12
Get in line, and walk through the doors to your seat when the music starts.
